A WOE method for urban growth boundary delineation and its applications to land use planning
نویسندگان
چکیده
The aim of this study is to develop a new approach for delineating urban growth boundaries (UGBs) by applying the weight of evidence (WOE) method to land suitability assessments. Rapid urbanization is causing urban areas to encroach on agricultural land in China, posing a threat to national food security. Land use planning with clear delineation of UGBs is an effective method for controlling urban expansion. However, existing methods for delineating UGBs are typically complex or involve arbitrary decision-making. To address these drawbacks, we introduced the WOE method to develop a new UGB delineation approach, and applied this approach to a case study in the city of Jinan, China. This application achieved satisfactory accuracy; therefore, we concluded that the WOE method was an objective and effective approach to land use suitability assessments and UGB delineation. Land use planning could be benefitted considerably from the application of this method to land allocation and other planning decisions. ARTICLE HISTORY Received 10 May 2014 Accepted 29 August 2015

Land Use Planning for Urban River Margins Based on the Green City Approach (Case study: Abshooran River of Kermanshah)
Physical development without proper planning has limited ecological capacity and the ability of natural ecosystems. Urban river structure as one of the most important ecological infrastructures in the city provides a variety of ecosystem services, including landscaping, climate change, etc. which is strongly dependent on the structure and functional status of the river. This study was conducted...
متن کاملAnalysis of Land-use suitability in the metropolitan County of Orumiyeh in line with spatial planning
Introduction Land-use planning has three subcategories: allocation, politics and economics. In general, allocation is the interaction between land proportion (supply) and the area required (demand), in current condition of the region. On the other hand, politics is the spatial planning. The economic aspect of land use is dedicated to the fact that in the system of supply and demand in order ...

متن کاملThe SLEUTH Land Use Change Model: A Review
Land use change is driven by interaction in space and time between humans and the environment that can be captured by computer simulation models (Veldkamp and Verburg, 2004). In the last few decades, land use change models have played an important role in understanding the causes, mechanisms and consequences of land use dynamics. SLEUTH is an open source cellular automata based land use change ...
